چکیده

Existing methods dealing with the time–cost trade-off problem, which is encountered in project planning, have focused on the solution of a basic problem that does not adequately represent actual engineering projects. The aim of this paper is to develop a solution method considering additional realistic project characteristics such as generalised activity precedence relations and external time constraints for particular activities. The proposed method is formulated as a linear/integer program and provides the optimal project time–cost curve and the minimum cost schedule. Evaluation results indicate that the method can be reliably applied to engineering projects. q 2004 Civil-Comp Ltd and Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Modified Pareto archived evolution strategy for the multi-skill project scheduling problem with generalized precedence relations

In this research, we study the multi-skill resource-constrained project scheduling problem, where there are generalized precedence relations between project activities. Workforces are able to perform one or several skills, and their efficiency improves by repeating their skills. For this problem, a mathematical formulation has been proposed that aims to optimize project completion time, reworki...

An Optimal NPV Project Scheduling with Fixed Work Content and Payment on Milestones

Project scheduling   Net present value   We consider a project scheduling problem with permitted tardiness and discrete time/resource trade-offs under maximum net present value objective. In this problem, a project consists of a set of sequential phases such that each phase contains one or more sub-projects including activities interrelated by finish-start-type precedence relations with a t...

Minimizing the Project Cost with Generalized Precedence Relations

Minimizing the project cost is a task of project scheduling, and usually is a starting point in the optimization about cost, for example the time-cost tradeoff is to compress the project duration from the one with minimum cost. Project cost can be minimized by letting all activities choose their minimum cost durations only when strict precedence relations exist between activities. But if genera...

Project Scheduling with Simultaneous Optimization, Time, Net Present Value, and Project Flexibility for Multimode Activities with Constrained Renewable Resources

Project success is assessed based on various criteria, every one of which enjoys a different level of importance for the beneficiaries and decision makers. Time and cost are the most important objectives and criteria for the project success. On the other hand, reducing the risk of finishing activities until the predetermined deadlines should be taken into account. Having formulated the problem ...

Solving multi-mode time-cost-quality trade-off problems under generalized precedence relations

In this paper, we model a multi-mode time-cost-quality trade-off project scheduling problem under generalized precedence relations using mixed-integer mathematical programming. Several solution procedures, including the classic epsilon-constraint (CEC) method, the efficient epsilonconstraint (EEC) method, dynamic self-adaptive multi-objective particle swarm optimization (DSAMOPSO), and the mult...
